If you are having troubles with one or more aspects of this site please review the support information below. If you still cannot resolve your issue please use the email contact at the bottom of this page.
Signing Up
You must sign up to create a free account on fileHOST.net.au. After you have signed up you are given full access to upload files, up to the free storage limit. If you wish to upgrade your account to a subscription service to take advantage of the extra storage limits you are able to do so at any time.
If you are having troubles signing up please close your browser completely then return to fileHOST.net.au and navigate to the Sign Up page and refresh the page (usually by pressing F5) before completing the sign up form. This will refresh the image verification code which can get cached to previous images in some browsers.
Logging In
Remember your password is case sensitive; however your username is not. If you have forgotten your password you can reset it as long as you remember your email address. Do not sign up for another account as you will not have access to your existing files or subscription services.
Once logged in your session remains active until you close your browser, if you are using a non-private PC it is a good idea to close the browser after you have finished your session. Alternatively you can click the Log Out button from within the 'members portal',which will destroy your current session credentials.
Uploading Files
Please be patient when uploading large files. Even though the servers have extremely fast connections to the internet, the upload speed is determined by your internet connection's maximum upstream bandwidth. If you are on dialup or entry level ADSL, uploading large files will take a long time.
There is a 10MB limit for each upload transaction. So you could upload 10 x 1MB files at a time or 1 10MB file. Just return to the upload page after the files have been uploaded successfully and you can upload another 10MB, up to your storage limit.
If you prefer you can upload via FTP using any FTP client. The FTP server is ftp.filehost.net.au port: 21 . Only users on a subscription based plan can use FTP. FTP cannot be used for downloading, this has been disabled. There is no size per file limit for FTP uploads, however, if you go beyond your storage limit your account will be restricted. i.e. no more web based uploads and no downloads.
If you receive error messages about bad file types, this is because you have tried to upload a restricted file type. Restricted files types are types of files that are scripts, programs or other executables. These types of files are not allowed to be uploaded; you should put these files in a zip, rar, gz or other archive prior to uploading.
If you are wondering why your filename might have changed after uploading a file, this is because the server has replaced any spaces or incompatible special characters such as &, % and $ in your file with safe characters. This makes your file downloads more reliable. These characters can cause problems for the server when sending files to download and for users trying to download your files.
If your file is not displayed in the 'mange files' section of the members portal you should check that there isn't already a file with the exact same file name in your account already. Bear in mind that the server might modify the filename as discussed in the paragraph above. If a file is already found to exist by this file name it will overwrite your old file replacing it with the new file.
Managing Files
Unfortunately there is no way to rename files that have been uploaded all you can do with the files once they have been uploaded is delete them. To effect a file change you will need to delete and re-upload the file with the correct name set prior to uploading.
Once files have been deleted we cannot recover them. Please make sure you are deleting the correct file before clicking the delete button.
A link to your file is displayed next to the name of your file in the 'manage files' section of the members portal. This is the link which you should distribute for other public users to get access to your file. People only wishing to download your file do not need to Log In or know any of your private information. Do not share your login details with anyone, as they can modify your subscription, gain access to your private details and delete your files.
Downloading Files
The link mentioned above which can be found next to your file in the 'manage files' section of the members portal is the only information you need to supply people with, to be able to download your file.
Users who visit fileHOST.net.au through a link to one of your files are presented with a page where they can click a button to download your file. Users who have current subscription services can apply to get a url link to directly download the file without first viewing a page.
If for any reason your account storage limit is exceeded by the size of the files you have uploaded, access will be restricted to your account and you will not be allowed to upload or download any files until the storage issue is resolved. This can occur if you downgrade your plan to a lower storage limit or you upload too much via FTP. Your account will also be restricted from further downloads if you exceed your transfer limit in any given month. While there is no limit on the size of files you can upload, files above 500 MB are not recommended as downloading via HTTP is not reliable.
Changing Plans
If you wish to change plan please visit the 'change plan' section of the members portal. You can change plan at any time you wish. However, if you decide to change plan within 7 days of your existing subscription becoming due for renewal OR within 7 days of your existing subscription becoming active you forfeit the money paid for the time left on your old plan. If you change plan any time outside these 7 day periods, i.e prior to the next subscription renewal and after the previous subscription dates, a refund will be sent to you via PayPal for the remaining time unused on the old plan. These measures are simply to reduce our administration overhead and stop plan 'hopping'. If you wish to minimise the amount of time and money lost change your plan a day before it renews.
Once you have upgraded from the free plan you cannot return to it.
Important: You must manually cancel your old subscription from within PayPal if you change plan.
When you change your plan you must cancel your old subscription in your PayPal account, instructions can be found in the following paragraphs to do this. If you do not cancel your old subscription prior to changing your plan and creating a new subscription you may not receive your refund and may be charging yourself twice for the same period. We cannot assist you with the cancellation of a subscription as these details are set up in your PayPal account which we have no access to.
Currently PayPal is the only method of payment we will accept for all the subscription services.
Your plan change will not be activated until a successful payment is received through PayPal. Once a successful payment is received you do not have to do anything except log back in to the members portal and your subscription services should reflect the new plan details.
Your account will remain active as long as the regular subscription is received on the monthly renewal date. You do not need to do anything on fileHOST.net.au if you have an active subscription in PayPal, fileHOST.net.au checks that you have paid and provides access to upload and download files accordingly.
If you wish to cancel your account you may do so at any time. You do not need to inform us of your decision simply log in to your PayPal account, navigate to "My Account" and click on the 'details' link for the subscription service in question. On the next page you can view details of the subscription to confirm it is the one you wish to delete and there should be a button at the bottom of the page labelled "Cancel Subscription".
GST is included in every payment you make, to view your Tax Invoices please vist the 'view invoices' section of the members portal.
If you are having difficulties with PayPal please contact PayPal support, they are usually very helpful.
